Joe announced a new organisation – Marketing Liverpool – who’s job it will be to promote Liverpool to people around the world, putting our city centre stage again and again.

And in a quick fire series of announcements, Joe said: “We are a city that continues to deliver some of the most ambitious events in Europe.”

“Liverpool will host an annual Festival of Entrepreneurship to build on the success of GEC. It will attract entrepreneurs, innovators, investors and position Liverpool as one of Europe’s most enterprising cities.”

“We are committed to developing new music festival to build on the fantastic success of Mathew Street Music Festival. We will work with the best artists both locally, nationally and internationally to fulfil this ambition.”

“We will deliver an extension to the BT Convention Centre.”

“We will make Liverpool a global meeting place. The Host City for high profile international conferences, exhibitions and gatherings. Where better to host the next G8 Summit?”

“Today we begin work on an annual event to celebrate Liverpool’s maritime heritage with the inaugural Irish Sea Tall Ships Regatta. Working with our Celtic partners and other port cities we will develop this into a New River Cities festival. This will take the traditional river festival model and build on it to create business and cultural opportunities and by 2015 will be the biggest in Europe, if not the world.”

“Our sporting excellence will be used to attract events of international importance. We will aim to establish the Liverpool Marathon as one of the UK’s three big road races, alongside the London Marathon and Great North Run.”
